Before you start working on your game. It’s recommended to use RetroJRPG→Wizards→New Game.

Write the name of your game and provide a path where your game assets will go. This script will create the necessary prefab assets you should use in your project.

You should not modify any prefab coming with the template. Instead read instructions below about how to customize it

Core Prefabs Asset

When using the tool above a new MyGameCorePrefabs asset will be created. This contains all the UI and prefabs instantiated at runtime. By default, this uses the default RetroJRPGCorePrefabs as a prototype where all the default prefabs are set.

Modifying existing UI

Lets say you wanted to modify the pause menu. Start by creating a prefab variant of the existing pause UI (called UIPause). Then assign the pause menu on MyGameCorePrefabs like so:

You can now modify MyUIPause safely. This way you ensure your MyUIPause is not overwritten by template updates but also gets any latest functionality added to the base UIPause.

If you have to modify any prefab in the template, do not do so directly, create a prefab variant and store it elsewhere outside of the RetroJRPG folder.
